Omdat we allemaal heel blij zijn dat we filosofie studeren, staat deze week in het teken van feestdagen!
Op maandag is het Overwinningsdag in Nauru. Nauru is een klein eiland dat deel uitmaakt van de eilandengroep Micronesië. Het eiland heeft een oppervlakte van 21 km² en telt 9488 inwoners. Ook al is Nauru piepklein, toch heeft het hen niet tegengehouden om te overwinnen! Laten we hen als voorbeeld nemen en ook de overwinning behalen tijdens het damesvoetbaltoernooi tegen Apolloon van 21:00 tot 22:00! Iedereen mag komen supporteren voor onze meisjes in de UCLL-sporthal (Hertogstraat 178, 3001 Heverlee), zodat we kunnen laten zien dat een kleine kring als NFK de overwinning kan behalen tegen een reus als Apolloon!
Ridders, paarden, koningen en koninginnen zijn de ingrediënten die in elk sprookje zitten. Zij worden dinsdag gevierd tijdens het Sprookjesfestival in Nederland, en bij ons tijdens de schaakfakbar! De fakbar opent zoals gewoonlijk om 21:00, maar vanaf 22:30 kan je deze week meedoen aan een schaaktornooi! Je hoeft geen grootmeester te zijn om te mogen meedoen, zelfs zij die nauwelijks een pion van een loper kunnen onderscheiden zijn welkom. De winnaar van de wedstrijd krijgt een mooie prijs.
Woensdag is het Óchi-dag in Griekenland. Op Óchi-dag wordt herdacht dat de Griekse dictator generaal Ioannis Metaxas in 1940 (tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog) een ultimatum van Benito Mussolini om het Italiaanse leger toegang tot Grieks grondgebied te verlenen van de hand wees. Maar om 20:00 zeggen wij wel massaal “ja” tegen de spelletjesavond in de lounge! Ook deze dag is een beetje een overwinningsdag, want onze heren spelen voetbal tegen Thomas Morus, van 20:00 tot 21:00, wederom in de UCLL-sporthal (Hertogstraat 178, 3001 Heverlee). Kom hen helpen met fanatiek gebrul en irritant gefluit (zo is het dilemma van vorige week meteen opgelost).
Donderdag wordt in Cambodja de kroning van koning Norodom Sihamoni gevierd. Om die dag op gepaste wijze te herdenken, zijn er geen activiteiten op donderdag.
Vrijdag is het nog geen Halloween, maar omdat wij als filosofen weten dat tijd een relatieve constructie is, gaan wij het toch al vieren met een Halloween geïnspireerde broodmaaltijd! Zoals steeds vindt deze plaats in de lounge van 12:00 tot 14:00 en kost het slechts €1,5, maar nu zijn er ook speciale gerechtjes en gebakjes te verkrijgen!

Dinsdag 3 november wordt het boek ‘Born This Way’ van Pieter Adriaens en Andreas De Block voorgesteld. De schrijvers zullen samen met Lieven Vandenhaute bespreken hoe ze in hun boek een filosofische blik werpen op wetenschap en homoseksualiteit. De boekvoorstelling vindt plaats om 18:30 in de Kardinaal Mercierzaal van het HIW. Graag inschrijven via pers@lannoocampus.be.
Word jij een van de nieuwe Faculty STARS 2015-2016? De Dienst Cultuur KU Leuven gaat samen met de faculteiten al voor het vierde jaar op rij op zoek naar hét artistieke gezicht van elke faculteit. NFKALENDAR
Because we’re all really happy to be philosophy students, this week’s all about holidays!
On Monday it’s ‘Victory Day’ in Nauru. Nauru is a small island that’s part of the island group Micronesia. The island’s surface is 21 km². Even though Nauru is tiny with 9488 people living there, it didn’t stop them from being the winners! Let’s follow their lead and be the victors of the women’s soccer game against Apolloon, from 21:00 to 22:00! Everyone is welcome to cheer for our girls at the UCLL sports hall (Hertogstraat 178, 3001 Heverlee). That way we can show that even NFK, as a small group, can defeat the gigantic Apolloon!
Knights, horses, queens and kings are the ingredients of every fairy tale. They will be celebrated on Tuesday during the Fairy Tale Festival in The Netherlands, and also here by us during our chess fakbar! The fakbar opens at 21:00 as usual, but from 22:30 on you can take part in a chess tournament! You don’t have to be ‘a master’ to be allowed to participate. Even if you can barely distinguish a bishop from a pine, you’re still more than welcome to join in! The winner will receive a nice prize.
On Wednesday the Greek citizens celebrate Óchi-day. This day is dedicated to remembering that the Greek dictator general Ioannis Metaxas refused Benito Mussolini’s ultimatum that would give the Italian army access to the Greek territory in 1940 (during the Second World War). But at 20:00 we all say “yes” to the game night in the lounge! This day is also a little victory day, because our gentlemen play soccer against Thomas Morus, from 20:00 till 21:00, again in the UCLL sport hall (Hertogstraat 178, 3001 Heverlee). Come help them win with your enthusiastic shouting and irritating whistling (which solves our dilemma of last week).
Cambodja celebrates the crowning of king Norodom Sihamoni on Thursday. To remember that day with all due respect, there are no activities.
This Friday is not Halloween yet, but because great philosophers like us know that time is a relative construction, we will already celebrate it by giving the bread meal a Halloween-flavor! As usual, the bread meal takes place in the lounge from 12:00 to 14:00. Prepare yourself for some special Halloween-related dishes and pastries, still only for €1,5!

On Tuesday the 3rd of November, the book ‘Born This Way’ by Pieter Adriaens and Andreas De Block will be presented. Together with Lieven Vandenhaute, the writers will discuss how to look at science and homosexuality in a philosophical way.
