WEGWIJZER
Hoi, gedag, en aangename kennismaking mijn teerbeminde WegWijzerlezer. De WegWijzer wordt deze week immers ter gelegenheid van de kiesweek gepend door een gloednieuwe PR-ploeg. Jij, ja jij daar achter je tekstverwerker of voor de muur, kan je stem uitbrengen op je favoriete opkomend praesidium. Echter nog veel uitzonderlijker zijn de komende rectorverkiezingen, waar we gezamenlijk kiezen wie vanaf volgend academiejaar voor een periode van vier jaar de nieuwe schooldirecteur wordt. Daarom zal deze WegWijzer in het teken staan van de twee kandidaat-rectoren, met name Luc Sels en Rik Torfs. Maandag zal de NFK-zaalvoetbal ploeg het opnemen tegen de balsjotters van Politika, in een zaalvoetbalmatch dan nog wel. Het evenement zal doorgaan van 19.00 tot 20.00 in de UCLL sporthal, Hertogstraat 178, Heverlee. Of het veel zal voorstellen dat valt nog te betwijfelen. Rector Torfs schreef namelijk in een tweet uit 2015 het volgende: “Het watervalsysteem: wie niet goed is in voetbal, kan altijd nog studeren aan de universiteit.” Het zaalvoetbalteam wenste hier geen commentaar op te geven. Om 20.00 stipt kan je in de Kardinaal Mercierzaal van het HIW terecht voor een debat (in het Engels) over de stelling: “Democratie heeft intrinsieke waarde en moet als een doel op zich nagestreefd worden.” Het debat wordt voor de gelegenheid van de kiesweek door het onderwijs-team georganiseerd. Over democratie heeft zittend rector Torfs het volgende te zeggen: “Noem de democratie het ‘zielloze status quo’ en meteen worden extreemlinks of extreemrechts de keuze van weergaloze creatievelingen.” Of meneer Torfs daarmee wil zeggen dat hij niet gelooft in onze democratie, of dat hij iedere afwijkende mening ondemocratisch vindt, dat laten we in het midden.
Dinsdag zal er op het grasveldje achter het HIW vanaf 15.00 een heus Zwerkbaltoernooi plaatsvinden. Voor degenen die niet weten wat Zwerkbal is: lees Harry Potter, of ga naar het facebookevenement en bekijk het filmpje dat in twee minuten uitlegt wat de bedoeling is, maar ter plaatse zal dat natuurlijk ook nog eens besproken worden. Om 20.00 wordt in Aula B van het HIW een presentatie gegeven door de opkomende praeses en vice-praeses, over hun visie op het opkomend praesidium. Na de noeste sportieve arbeid van het zwerkbaltoernooi en de intellectuele arbeid die ongetwijfeld nodig is om het briljante meesterplan achter de visie op het praesidium te begrijpen, kan je wat gaan ontspannen in het M-café waar er vanaf 21.00 wederom fakbar gehouden zal worden tot in de vroege uurtjes en waar het nieuwe fakbarpersoneel je voor de gelegenheid zal trachten te charmeren met huisbereide cocktails.
Een weetje over uitdager in deze verkiezingen, Luc Sels: hoewel hij de zittende decaan van de Faculteit Economie en Bedrijfswetenschappen is, is Sels zelf geen econoom. Hij zwaaide immers af als bedrijfssocioloog aan de Campus Sociale Wetenschappen. Blijkbaar was daarrond zoveel onduidelijkheid ontstaan dat hij het nodig achtte zijn gebied van expertise expliciet te benadrukken bij het verkiezingsdebat georganiseerd door de studentenraad, donderdag 20 april. Ook op zijn website is dat het eerste wat hij in zijn ‘biosketch’ zegt over zichzelf.
Woensdag vindt er allereerst om 13.00 een gesprek over de speerpunten voor de decaansverkiezingen plaats, in PI 00.38, want naast de rectorverkiezing wordt er op het HIW ook een nieuwe decaan gekozen. Daarnaast is er een walk-in (en out natuurlijk!) photoshoot in de Raadzaal van het HIW, met professioneel materiaal. Je kan je narcistische zelf daar komen verwennen van 13.00 tot en met 15.00. Vele malen belangrijker is echter dat die dag ook onze opkomende praeses het begin van haar 23e rotatie rond de zon sinds haar geboortedag viert. Driemaal hoera! Om 16u00 is het Onderwijsbureau in de Raadzaal van het HIW.
Over geboortedagen gesproken: Rik Torfs werd 16 Oktober 1956 geboren als Henri Maria Dymphna André Laurent Torfs, maar voor de vrienden is het Rik. Luc Sels daarentegen werd in 1967 te Merksem geboren onder de iets makkelijkere naam Luc Sels. Deze gegevens verzekeren ons er tenminste al van dat Luc Sels en Rik Torfs niet één en dezelfde persoon zijn.
Donderdag kan je vanaf 14.00 aan het HIW (binnen of buiten, afhankelijk van het weer) terecht voor smoothies, vrolijke muziek en een nog vrolijkere sfeer tijdens onze Latin-namiddag. Kom gezellig mee chillen en misschien ben jij wel degene die de piñata de vernietigende slag kan toedienen? Deelname is gratis en gegarandeerd leuk, alhoewel voor een smoothie & een slag op de piñata een democratisch prijsje gevraagd zal worden. Donderdagavond is het tijd voor een party! Als thema is het deze keer Beach, vanaf 22u00 zijn jullie welkom in de Alegria (Oude Markt).
Vrijdag kan je naar wekelijkse gewoonte weer in de lounge terecht voor de broodmaaltijd, van 12.00 tot 14.00. Zoals altijd mag je zoveel eten als je maar kan voor de luttele prijs van 1,5 euro. Er zullen speciaal voor de gelegenheid van de kiesweek ook wafels gebakken worden.

Hello, good day and nice to meet you, my dear reader! The WegWijzer of this week is after all being written by a brand-new PR-team. This week will, sure thing, be the election week which means that you, yes you there behind your word processor or in front of that wall, will be able to vote for your favourite upcoming praesidium. Even more important however, are the upcoming rector elections, where we will all decide together who will become the next rector. Because of that, this WegWijzer will be in the light of your two options, defending champion Rik Torfs and challenger Luc Sels. Monday evening, the NFK futsal team will try to beat the ballkickers from Politika, in a futsal game of course. This event will take place from 19.00 until 20.00, in the UCLL sports hall, which you can find at Hertogstraat 178, Heverlee. It’s to be doubted whether it will amount to much, because, according to a tweet from Rik Torfs from 2015: “If you’re not good at football, you can still start studying at University.” Our team declined to give any comment on such statements. Immediately thereafter, you can go to the HIW in the Kardinaal Mercierzaal for a debate which starts at 20.00. It is organized by the upcoming education team and it will be about the moot: “Democracy has intrinsic value, and should be pursued as an end itself.” It certainly promises to become an interesting discussion. Rector Torfs has the following to tweet about democracy: “Call democracy the soulless status quo, and immediate the ultra-left and extreme-right become the choice of matchless creatives.” (our translation) We make no statement about whether that means Torfs does not believe in democracy, or that he finds every deviating opinion undemocratic.
Tuesday, 15.00, a real Quidditch tournament will take place on the grass field behind the HIW. For those of you who don’t know what Quidditch is: read Harry Potter (or go watch the video on the facebook event, or listen to the explanation before the beginning of the tournament). The event is guaranteed to be worth checking out. At 20.00 the vision of the upcoming praesidium will be presented at Aula B of the HIW. After the hard physical labour of the quidditch tournament and the mental labour that will undoubtedly be required to gain insight into the brilliant masterplan that is our vision, you can come and relax at the M-café, where there will be fakbar from 21.00 up until the early hours, and where the upcoming fakbarteam will try to win your heart over with homemade cocktails.
An interesting fact about rectorcandidate Sels: Despite being the dean of the Faculty of Economy and Business, Sels himself is not an economist. He graduated as a business sociologist at the Faculty Social Sciences. There seemed to be some misunderstandings about this in the media, as the first thing he says about himself on his website, is that he graduated as a sociologist, and not as an economist.
Wednesday there will be a photoshoot in the Raadzaal of the HIW, with professional material. There, you can let out your narcissistic tendencies from 13.00 until 15.00. You can also join our meeting about the spearheads for the election of the new dean, from 13.00 onwards in PI 00.38. Even more important is that that day, our candidate praeses is celebrating the beginning of her 23th rotation around the sun. Congratulations Sophie! Speaking of birthdays: Rik Torfs was born in Turnhout, the so called Belgian Alabame, the 16th of October 1956 as Henri Maria Dymphna André Laurent Torfs, whereas Luc Sels was born in 1697 in Merksem under the more simple name: Luc Sels. Knowing this we’re a little more sure again that our two rector candidates aren’t the same person, because well, you never know.
Thursday you can visit the HIW (outside or inside, depending on the weather) starting at 14.00 for smoothies, piñatas, uplifting music and an even more uplifting mood during our Latin- afternoon. Participation is free, but for a smoothie & a hit on the piñata a democratic price will be asked. Thursday evening, we’re throwing a party. Starting at 22.00, in the Alegria (Oude Markt), theme: Beach.
To our weekly habit, Friday there will be breadmeal from 12.00 until 14.00 in the lounge. All you can eat for the lenient price of 1,5 euro, what more could you possibly ask for? For the occasion of the election week, there will also be waffles.
