WEGWIJZER
De ideeënbox in de lounge is er niet zomaar voor de schone schijn. Keeping up appearances is enkel ons ding wat betreft het TV-programma. In tegenstelling tot Mrs. Bucket/Bouquet, luisteren wij wél naar wat u zegt. De suggestie om voor cavia’s te zorgen in de lounge viel zeker in de smaak. Verder dan foto’s konden we niet gaan, maar in die vorm zijn er ondertussen wel degelijk cavia’s in de lounge aanwezig! Om in het dierenthema te blijven, verschaffen we je een dierenweetje voor elke dag. En ’t zijn er goei.
Op maandag is er van 13:30 tot 16:00 uur een peer review session. Heb jij dus nog problemen met je papers, kom je er niet helemaal uit, heb je echt geen idee wat ze bij dispuut- en stel nu verwachten, of zou je gewoon graag eens wat feedback hebben van je medestudenten? Kom dan maandag naar de raadzaal met je paper en laat ze eens nalezen.
Dierenweetje: cavia’s zijn afkomstig uit het Andesgebergte. Klinkt avontuurlijk, alsof enkel een soort die enorm goed bezig is in the survival of the fittest daar kan overleven.
Daar beeld je je niet meteen die kleine, bolle, aaibare cavia’s bij in. Beetje grappig.
De omgeving van cavia’s is er eerder een luxueuze, zoals die van Violet:

p dinsdag zijn er verschillende activiteiten te doen. Ze zullen je voor een dilemma doen staan, omwille van de gelijktijdigheid. (Dilemma: moeilijke keuze; ’t een is (niet) goed, en ’t ander is ook (niet) goed, maar ge moet kiezen.) De eerste mogelijkheid begint om 20:00 in de Kardinaal Mercierzaal. Daar vindt een gastlezing plaats door John Corvino met als titel: ‘What’s morally wrong with homosexuality?’ Meer info vind je hier. Een uurtje later, om 21:00 dus, begint het volgende event. Je kan bierproeven in de fak! Het kost jou en je smaakpapillen slechts 8 euro. Schrijf je hier in. Die avond is het echter ook tijd voor de voorronde van de Interfacultaire Rockrally. De deuren gaan om 19:00 open en om 19:30 wordt bekend gemaakt wie wanneer speelt. Supporteren en stemmen voor Expected Julianna, die NFK er vertegenwoordigt, kan! Voor meer info, zie facebook.
Dierenweetje: Dus pas op als je er eentje tegenkomt, zeker in het weekend… :
Op woensdag is er een van de meest essentiële workshops in lokaal S tussen 12:00 en 13:00. ‘Bijna afgestudeerd als filosoof: wat nu?’ Kom te weten wat je na je master aan kan vangen met je diploma. ’s Avonds is er de M-Museumnacht. Kom genieten van de muzikale grootmeesters Dez Mona, dans je te pletter op de smaakvolle beats van Lingerwalt, ervaar performances, pik de prachtige tentoonstelling ‘Op zoek naar Utopia’ mee en ontdek de hedendaagse kunst van Yto Barrada en Mary Reid Kelley. We spreken af aan het HIW om 18:45, zodat we daar om 19:00 zijn.
Dierenweetje: Uilen en nachtvlinders proeven met behulp van hun voeten. Zou dat de reden zijn voor het verbod op schoenen?
Op donderdag vindt er een lezing/debat over dierenethiek plaats. Ze zal vertrekken vanuit de film ‘Grizzly Man’ en daarna verder opengetrokken worden naar een meer algemenere thematiek. Die wordt geïntroduceerd door prof. Melle en gaat door in de Raadzaal tussen 12:30 en 14:00. Kom ’s avonds zeker de grizzly man uithangen op onze 80’s TD! Vanaf 22:00 ben je welkom in het zaaltje boven de Apero, zoals gewoonlijk, om er ook zoals gewoonlijk een fantastisch filosofenfeestje van te maken!

titel ’20 fascinerende dierenweetjes’: (Bronvermelding, omdat dit echt een raar weetje is) ‘Wilde slangen kan je niet vinden in Ierland, IJsland, Groenland en Antarctica.’ … HIER WEL OFWA?
Op vrijdag is het natuurlijk weer tijd voor ons gebruikelijke evenementje om het weekend mee in te zetten: de broodmaaltijd! Voor slechts anderhalve euro kan je zoveel boterhammetjes smullen als je maar wilt tussen 12:00 en 14:00.
Dierenweetje: Flamingo’s worden grijs geboren, na een jaar of twee worden ze roodachtig-roze. Ze worden ook geboren met een rechte nek, maar die buigt met de jaren.

The box of ideas in the lounge is not just there to keeping up appearances. That’s only our cup of tea when it comes to the TV-program. As opposed to Mrs. Bucket/Bouquet, we dó listen to what you have to say. The suggestion to put some guinea pigs in the lounge was great, but since we couldn’t find a way to give them all the attention they deserve (think of evenings, weekends, exams,…), we decided to provide guinea pigs in the form of pictures!
To stay in the theme of animals, there’s a fun fact about animals each day. Good ones. Hihi.
On Monday, there’s only this animal fact: guinea pigs are originally from the Andes mountain range. That sounds really adventurous, as if only a species that does really well in the survival of the fittest would be able to survive there. You don’t spontaneously picture a cute, cuddly guinea pig in such a surrounding. A bit funny. The surrounding of guinea pigs is more a luxurious one, like Violet’s:
On Tuesday, there are three activities scheduled. They’ll make you choose priorities, because they could be partially simultaneous. First, at 20:00, there’s a guest lecture by John Corvino about ‘What’s wrong with homosexuality?’ in the Kardinaal Mercierzaal. An hour later, 21:00, the next event starts. For only €8, you can taste beer together with us in the fakbar. That’s a nice opportunity to get to know and appreciate the Belgian delicacies. Subscribe here. Animal fact: So watch out if you see one, especially during the weekend:
On Wednesday in the evening, we’ll go to M-Museumnacht. There will be music, performances and contemporary art. It’ll be an extraordinary evening that you can’t miss! We meet at the gate of the HIW at 18:45 so that we’re there at 19:00.
Animal fact: Owls and night butterflies taste with their feet. Would that be the reason for the order to leave shoes outside?
On Thursday, there’s a debate/lecture on animal rights. We start the lecture with a reflection on the movie ‘Grizzly Man’, but will extend the topic on animal rights beyond the film. It will be introduced by professor Melle. It takes place in the Raadzaal between 12:30 and 14:00. Make sure to get the grizzly man out in the evening on our 80’s TD! From 22:00 onwards, you are welcome in the room above the Apero, as usual, to make it a great philosopher’s party, as usual!

On Friday, there’s the weekly event in the usual formula: the bread meal. For only €1,5, you can eat as much bread as you like between 12:00 and 14:00.
Animal fact: Flamingo’s are born grey. They become pink after two years. They’re born with a straight neck, which bends throughout the years.
