Op de planeet sirion-8734-b woont er een beschaving die volledig gebaseerd is op het idee dat rust belangrijker is voor vooruitgang dan feitelijke inspanning. Geheel in overeenstemming met deze ideologie geldt deze planeet als bakermat voor een heel scala aan universum-verrijkende uitvindingen zoals de 5-urenwerkweek, de 100 uren estafette slapen en het jaarlijks interplanetair kampioenschap procrastinatie, waarvan men ons verzekert dat het nu toch wel haast elk moment zou kunnen beginnen. Omdat wij bij NFK wel openstaan voor nieuwe ervaringen vanuit vreemde culturen houden we maandag dan ook een rustdag en een filmavond in de lounge om 20u30. Om tegen het einde van de dag toch iets van hersenactiviteit geproduceerd te hebben, kiezen we voor een film met een filosofisch kantje: Shutter Island.
Wat hebben Parmenides, Socrates en professor Vergauwen met elkaar gemeen? Ze zijn allen wel eens gespot tijdens een gezellig sprintje rond de Acropolis. Dinsdag treden we met zijn allen in hun figuurlijke voetsporen, want om 20u start de 24-urenloop aan het Sportkot (Tervuursevest 101, 3001 Heverlee). Omdat NFK bovenal een sociale kring is, hebben we dit jaar weer een sportieve collaboratie met Alfa, Babylon, Eoos, Historia, Mecenas en Musicologica. We moedigen elke NFK-er dan ook van harte aan om mee te demonstreren dat onze benen niet slechts een manier zijn om onze geest van aula naar aula te transporteren, maar dat de loopact zelf een vervolmaking inhoudt van onze atletische potentie. Er zal sfeer zijn, ambiance, snacks en de sporadische beschamende opdracht voor een praeses bij bepaalde treshholds. Dit megaevent zal zijn laatste loodjes lopen op woensdag, 20u.
Roepen de woorden broederlijkheid, balgevoel en hooliganisme bij u ook warme gevoelens op? Donderdag om 21u30 in de KBC-sporthal bewijst NFK dat voetbal ook bij uitstek een filosofensport is door onze eerste zaalvoetbalmatch van het jaar te spelen tegen Eoos. Talent, vastberadenheid en winstkansen hebben we al in overvloed, supporters, spontane cheerleaders en andere sfeermakers is wat we nog nodig hebben. Indien u na de 24-urenloop wel eens zin hebt om anderen het zware werk te laten doen, of om je filobroeders gewoon een hart onder de riem te steken, bent u van harte welkom. Voor degenen die willen meewerken aan het toneel van NFK zijn er deze avond audities. Jullie worden verwacht om 19u bij Sharon op kot, boven ‘Clochard de luxe’ op het Ladeuzeplein. Als je wilt meewerken aan het toneel op enige wijze, stuur dan zeker een mailtje naar cultuur@nfk.be.
Zoals mijn grootmoeder zaliger vroeger steeds placht te zeggen: “zwijgt en eet!” Hoewel ik me het eerste deel van deze doctrine nooit eigen heb weten te maken, kan ik met plezier aankondigen steeds te hebben uitgeblonken in het tweede. Vrijdag tussen 12u en 14u uur verwelkomen we iedere culinaire meerwaardezoeker in de lounge voor onze beruchte broodmaaltijd. Combineert u graag diepgaand gesprek met oppervlakkig besmeerde broodsneden, of visa versa, we zien u met veel plezier ter plaatse.

deWijzer heeft een enquête gemaakt om de financiële situatie van de HIW-studenten in kaart te brengen en om te peilen naar de meningen over de verhoging van de studiegelden. De antwoorden van deze enquête blijven anoniem en dienen slechts om in algemene tabellen te gieten, die dan in de volgende editie van deWijzer verschijnen. Wij zouden jullie hierbij willen oproepen om zeker allemaal vijf minuutjes de tijd te nemen om deze vragen in te vullen, deWijzer zal u zeer dankbaar zijn! Interfacultaire rockrally: inschrijven voor 27 oktober (cultuur@nfk.be). Als er meerdere kandidaten zijn, wordt er tijdens de fakbar van 28 oktober een wedstrijd georganiseerd om te bepalen wie er NFK mag vertegenwoordigen. De bands moeten voor ten minste één derde bestaan uit filosofiestudenten. De voorrondes van de eigenlijke rockrally beginnen op 19 en 20 november.

The planet sirion-8734-b hosts a civilization completely based on the idea that rest is more important for a society’s progress than actual work. Unsurprisingly, a lot of ground-breaking inventions and traditions have found their roots in this belief. Among them the 5-hour workweek, the 100 hours relay sleepathon and the annual interplanetary championship of procrastination, which, officials assure us, should be finally starting in a few days. Possibly a week. To honour the rich traditions of this blooming civilization, NFK will do nothing on Monday. In the evening, at 20u30, we’re watching a movie in the lounge: Shutter Island.
What do Parmenides, Socrates en professor Vergauwen have in common? All of them were once spotted jogging a tour round the Acropolis. On Tuesday, we’ll all figuratively follow in their footsteps, since at 20u the 24-hoursrun starts at the University Sportscentre (Tervuursevest 101, 3001 Heverlee). NFK is a very social organisation, so we will like last year team up with the student organisations from Letteren: Alfa, Babylon, Eoos, Historia, Mecenas and Musicologica. We encourage every philosophy student to show that your legs do not only serve to transport your mind to the auditorium, but that the act of running in itself implies a perfection of our athletic potential. Fun, snacks, and an occasional embarrassing assignment for a member of the praesidium when certain thresholds are reached, are guaranteed. This big event will have its final run on Wednesday, 20u.
Do the words fraternity, ball control, and hooliganism cause warm feelings for you too? Thursday, at 21u30 in the KBC hall, NFK will prove that soccer is an ideal sport for philosophers by playing our first futsal match of the year against Eoos. We’ve already got talent, determination and winning opportunities abound, but we‘re still in need for supporters, cheerleaders and other kinds of atmosphere creators. If you’re tired from the 24-hoursrun and would like to leave the hard work to others this time, or if you just want to encourage your philo-brothers, be mostly welcome.
Like my beloved grandmother always used to say: “shut up and eat!” Even though I still haven’t quite grasped the concept of the first part of this doctrine, I can happily mention I’ve always outshined in the second part. Friday, between 12u and 14u, we would like to invite every culinary value seeker in the lounge for our famous bread meal. If you like to combine a rich conversation with superficially sandwhiches, or vice versa, we would love to see you there.

deWijzer (students magazine) made a survey to get an idea of the financial situation of the students at the HIW and to ask about the opinions regarding the raise of the tuition fees. The answers of this survey will remain anonymous and will only be used to make general statistics, which will be published in the next edition of deWijzer. Inter-faculty rock rally: apply before the 27th of October (cultuur@nfk.be). If multiple acts would like to join, there’ll be a competition in the fakbar of the 28th of October to decide which band can represent NFK. It is required that at least one third of the band are philosophy students at the HIW. The qualifying rounds of the actual rock rally start on the 19th and 20st of November.
