NFKickassactivities 17/12/18

Welcome dear readers to this week’s leaflet from NFK, the last one of the semester 🙁

I wish you all good luck with your exams

Monday 17/12

20:00-23:00  Movie Night: Locke
Tom Hardy (villain Bane from The Dark Knight Rises) plays Ivan Locke, a straightforward builder and family man who gets himself in trouble during a nocturnal car ride. Accidents, crimes or other calibrated thriller elements play no part in this; Locke is an ordinary man with ordinary problems, which he has to solve by telephone. Although we never leave the car (other characters can only be heard), the film is never boring, thanks to an intelligent script, great camera work and a top performance by Hardy. @ Room A

Tuesday 18/12

22:30- ….  Last, Last Fakbar
The ideal place to consume some alcohol and to hang out and socialize with people for the last time this semester.

Wednesday 19/12

16:00-18:00 Open Education meeting
If you want to talk about the educational policies at the HIW be sure to come take a look @ Room S

Hi sweet philosophers, before we lock ourselves in dark rooms behind our books, we should go on the last NFK pubcrawl of the semester together!  We meet up at the institute at 9. We’re probably going to Universum, Libertad, Belge and Blauwe Kater (but suggestions are always welcome ofcourse).

Friday 21/12

NFKickassactivities 10/12/18

Welcome dear readers to this week’s leaflet from NFK (already the second last of this semester) with all our activities for the coming week. This week’s theme is: W/L Cave

Monday 10/12

13:00-14:00 Brainstorm Increased Tuiton Fees
We organise a brainstorm session about the increased tuiton fees if u want to discuss this problem be sure not to miss this event @HIW, room S

Fun Fact: W/L Cave is part of the Fairy Cave Quarry group of caves between Stoke St Michael and Oakhill in the limestone of the Mendip Hills, in Somerset, England.

Tuesday 11/12

21:00- …. Fakbar
The ideal place to consume some alcohol and to hang out and socialize with people.

Fun fact: It is named after the initials of its discoverers, Bob Whitaker and Jerry Lavis, was first entered in the summer of 1967. It was the first significant cave to be discovered after the destruction of Balch Cave in the same (Fairy Cave) quarry.

Wednesday 12/12

18:30-23:00 NFK Christmas Dinner
We are delighted to invite you all to NFK’s annual Christmas dinner! As it’s tradition, we’ll celebrate this wonderful holiday in the spirit of communion: every student, professor, alumnus/-a and other associate of the faculty is invited to join us on this grand day. As always, the dinner will be preceded by a vigil, which is held at the chapel of Leo XIII. It wil start at 16:30 and last for about half an hour. At 18:00, there will be a (free) reception followed by the dinner itself which starts at 18:30 at Zaal Floreal, Mechelsesteenweg 358, 3020 Herent. This location is easily reached by bus or by train, but be aware that the last bus to Leuven leaves at 11:22 PM and the last train at 00:11 AM! Since we want everyone to be able to join, a vegan option is always available. Tickets for the dinner are available at the cudi (so NOT at the library!), at the fakbar and by online registration and payment! Don’t wait too long to buy tickets, because the Christmas party is sold out every year. The price of the tickets is €12 for students and €15 for professors.

Fun fact: Although short it was extremely well decorated with calcite formations and ended in a large chamber with a magnificent side grotto dubbed Pink Pool Chamber. It is almost certainly part of the Balch Cave system and is the link between Balch Cave and the other systems in Fairy Cave Quarry namely Shatter Cave and Withyhill Cave.

Thursday 13/12

We will organise no activities on this day 🙁

 Friday 14/12

12:00-14:00 BreadmealCome consume some bread and cheese and other food stuff in the lounge of the HIW for only €1,5.

Fun fact: The link was proved by a digging project conducted by Pete Rose and Nick Chipchase of the Cerberus Spelaeological Society, the HQ of which club used to lie adjacent to the quarry in cottages owned by the quarry company. Pink Pool Chamber is linked to the first chamber in Shatter Cave by a narrow passage opened by blasting by the above named cavers.
