We do recognize of course, that probably no such singular temperament exists, but we’re open to any ideas, theories, and interpretations of what this X spirit could be. Tuesday 15/10 12:30 – 14:00 Philosophy and the World Out There HIW Room S 01.14 The first event in the Philosophy and the World Out There series will open a discussion of the worldview of one of the leading figures in the ongoing Brexit saga, Dominic Cummings. Cummings was the campaign director of the ‘Vote Leave’ campaign in the 2016 referendum on Britain’s membership of the EU, and he is now Boris Johnson’s chief advisor. He is also a prolific blogger, and his writings reveal an unexpected appreciation of Nietzsche. But how does he interpret Nietzsche? And what do Cummings’ Nietzschean politics reveal about his plans for post-Brexit Britain? With these series of talks a space is created to reflect on the reciprocal connections between philosophy and the contemporary society and to help foster discussions between students and academic staff across the Institute’s research centres.
