Candidate student representatives

POC Philosophy Candidates (EN) (6 positions)

Sapfo Spyridakos

My name is Sapfo Spyridakos, I come from Greece, and I have been living in Belgium for three years. This year I decided to run as candidate for the Permanent Education Committee for the International Programme of the Faculty of Philosophy. As a financially independent and international student, I know how much good education is worth for someone to leave their comforts and their home behind. KUL has always taken feedback from students seriously in order to maintain its level on higher education, and I am here to ensure that everyone’s experience is taken into consideration, so as to result to the best possible version of the Institute. In the Faculty of Philosophy, students are like a big family. As a very socially active person in the HIW for the past two years, I know that people will never shy away of coming to me and that I feel very motivated and comfortable reaching out to fellow students whenever that is needed. Lastly, philosophy is one of my biggest passions and that is why I am committed to make the experience of anyone choosing the Institute to study in unforgettable and recommendable.

Radu Nedescu

Please receive my candidacy for the position of student representative in the POC Philosophy. I came to Leuven in 2018 to study the international B.A. in Philosophy. Now in my second year, I plan to become a member of NFK in 2020-2021. I wish as a future member of the Education function to represent all students, including the students with any disability, myself being a person with autism. Students with or without autism might have difficulties in adapting their schedule, dealing with anxiety and stress, so I feel a duty to make these needs heard at the Institute.

POC  Wijsbegeerte Candidates (NL) (4 positions)

Liesa Vosch

Emma Malfait

I’m Emma Malfait and would gladly be one of the many student representatives as a part of NFK Education (specifically: Poc Dutch). I was very lucky to be vice praesis in my last year of high school, where I was the key between students and the managing board. It was there where I got a taste of the skills as a communicator and a representative for a large group of students with a lot of different voices and opinions. Now, as a first year philosophy student, I’m once again very motivated and excited to do something like this again. Not only do I hope to represent the values of the HIW students, I also want Education to be a point of contact for everyone who has questions or complaints. I know this won’t be easy, there a lot of different needs and opinions, but I do hope to always find a middle ground. I definitely believe in the strength of the upcoming NFK education team and I would love to be a part of that.

Marte Polspoel

Mijn naam is Marte Polspoel.

Hi, my name is Joëlle Doek. I would like to join the POC and the faculty council. For the last two year I’ve been a studentrepresentative at the HIW. I would like to continue doing that next year. I’ll start my master in philosophy next year, and I think it’s important that the students of all programmes are represented. As I’ve done the bachelor and will do master, I’ll know about the bachelor and master programme. Besides that I think it’s important that knowledge about the current topics that are discussed  is transferred to new studentrepresentatieves. I would like to  commit to that as well.

Faculty Council candidates (5 positions)

Liesa Vosch

My name is Liesa Vosch and I am in the second year of the bachelor philosophy with minor law. I would like to dedicate myself to the Dutch POC, the faculty council and the faculty board. I think it’s very important that students get the chance to have a say in the decisions that are made at the HIW. Therefore I want to reach as many students as possible to include them in their representation. Because I am PR-coördinator in the praesidium this year and upcoming praeses, I think I am the right person to reach students and get them motivated to give their opinion on matters that are important to them. I don’t have any experience as a student representative yet, but I am looking forward to learning about how everything works at our faculty and I will gladly ask advice to people with more experience.

Marte Polspoel

My name is Marte Polspoel. I’m a first year bachelor student in philosophy with the minor political sciences. As a student representative, I intend to always be approachable for every student so they can feel comfortable to openly express their positive or negative feedback on education. I believe it is crucial that students know who their student representatives actually are. One of the ways to achieve this is by promoting the open educational meetings. In addition, students can also give their
views directly with me in person. I value discussing with other students about education so that I can be aware about what they find important and act upon their needs. As student representative, I place listening to my fellow students as my highest priority, although I realise that it is essential to also listen to the teaching staff as well as the study lab. I feel we can learn much from gathering the viewpoints and valuable experiences from all groups involved in education. I would also like to work on good relations between the student representatives themselves, so that I can realise the benefits of synergy working together as one team. I am convinced that by doing so, all student representatives will discover many benefits from each other, especially from those with more experience. I look forward to being a positive part of the educational team.

Elise Weterings
